Edit existing PDF text and understand scanned files
PDF pages can contain text objects, pictures or both. Choosing the right method starts with checking what the page actually contains.
Change an existing text object
Open Edit PDF with a non-private test document and tap or click the wording directly on the page. Replace a short word, preview the change and save a separate edited PDF.
Fictional example: replace Friday with Monday in an event handout. Check the saved page to confirm the replacement fits the line. Longer wording does not automatically push neighbouring text into a new paragraph.
- Add the PDF and select the page you want.
- Select its existing text and enter the replacement.
- Preview, save and inspect the downloaded result. Your source stays separate.
Use added content for annotations
Add text, images or shapes when you want a new note rather than a replacement. Move and resize added content, check it against the page and use Undo or Redo to review changes.
For an interactive form, Fill PDF forms can be more appropriate than placing ordinary text over its fields. Choose Sign PDF when the main task is placing a visible signature.
Understand what OCR changes
A photograph of a page contains pixels. The words in that image are not native text objects for the editor to select and replace. OCR recognizes wording and provides a searchable text layer; it does not reconstruct the photographed page as an editable Word-style design.
If you need the wording from a scan, recognize it and use Extract text, then review and correct the result. You can create a new typed document from that text. If you only need a note on the scan, add an annotation and inspect its placement.
Check the exported file
Review every affected page, not just the editor preview. Check replacement text, spacing, unexpected overlap and page order. Keep an original download if the edit matters.
Recognition can misread names and numbers. A searchable layer also does not prove that sensitive content was removed; use the dedicated redaction tool and inspect its saved result for removal tasks.
