PDF and image tools inside Codex.
Give your coding agent a paired DamnPDFs workspace for document and image tasks. Install the open-source plugin, connect a browser tab and tell the agent which files it may use.
Install from the Git marketplace
In Codex, open Plugins → Add → Add a marketplace. Enter the repository below, then install Damn PDFs by Sourav Bera from that marketplace.
https://github.com/SouravBeraAkaSpeed/damnpdfs-codex-pluginThis is our public Git marketplace. It is separate from the curated Public catalog; a Git installation does not imply a curated listing.
Alternatively, use Add → Upload plugin archive with the versioned ZIP. The archive contains the plugin manifest, skill, MCP bridge and icons at its root. Start a new Codex chat after installation so the plugin’s skill and tools can load.
Pair the browser workspace
- Open DamnPDFs and choose Agent Access.
- Ask Codex to connect the DamnPDFs plugin, then provide the pairing code shown by that page.
- Keep the paired tab open and connected while the agent works. Ask it to check connection status before a long workflow.
Pairing authorizes that workspace. The session renews while its tab remains connected; closing the tab or losing the connection interrupts access. This is not a persistent unattended service that works with the browser closed.
Try a concrete file task
Use a non-private sample first. Give the agent exact input and output paths, and ask it to preserve the original.
- “Compress this product photo to WebP, compare the saved size and keep its transparency.”
- “Convert these PowerPoint slides to PDF and inspect the page order.”
- “Merge these two PDFs, rotate the appendix and save a separate result.”
The plugin exposes 71 task tools, eight workspace operations and five connection/file helpers. Available controls are described in each tool’s schema. PDF editing, scans, visible signatures and conversions have format-specific limits; inspect the actual downloaded result.
Understand local files and temporary cloud processing
The plugin imports only the exact local path approved for a task; it does not search your computer for files. Importing through its local-file helper uploads that file to temporary cloud storage. Check this before using private material. You can also add files through the paired website workspace.
Cloud files expire within one hour or are removed when the completed job is acknowledged. The website’s local workspace uses a separate retention limit of up to four hours. Files you download remain under your control. Read the full privacy and retention policy.
Export requires an exact output path and refuses to overwrite an existing file. Keep AI-provider keys out of chat and enter them only in the website’s AI settings. Optional external AI can incur charges from your provider; DamnPDFs document tools are free.
Connection or output not working?
If the session disconnects, reopen the workspace and pair it again. Check a job’s status before resubmitting so an interrupted request does not create duplicate work. After a completed task, review the output and clear the workspace or revoke the pairing when finished.
For reproducible issues, include the plugin version, tool name, exact failing step and a fictional test file. Do not attach private documents, pairing credentials or API keys. Report a plugin issue on GitHub or contact DamnPDFs.
