Balanced: Re-encodes images with moderate JPEG compression and may lower their resolution. Searchable text remains text; fine image detail can change.
Smallest: Uses stronger JPEG compression at your chosen resolution. It aims for a smaller file but can blur fine image detail. Check scans and diagrams carefully.

Used for Balanced and Smallest image compression. 150 DPI suits screen reading; 300 DPI keeps more printing detail. Lossless ignores this setting.
